Doha Bank receives Green Award 2009
Doha Bank was conferred the ‘Best Public Awareness Campaign Green Award’ by Qatar Today for its consistent efforts in reaching out to both the public and private sectors on eco-related issues.
Mr. Louis A. Scotto, Head of Retail Banking, while receiving the award said; “We at Doha Bank actively encourage our staff and customers to promote the green concept of Paperless Banking through the Green Accounts and to adopt the ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ concept.”
Mr. R. Seetharaman, Doha Bank Group CEO said, “It is Doha Bank’s motto to follow the green path and educate the public along the way. Recently we had launched the Go Green Credit Card whereby 1% of all that the customer spends through the usage of Green Card will be donated to a green cause. We have also developed the Doha Green Bank website which features the Bank’s various eco-activities and initiatives taken, green products and services offered, and all upcoming environment-related events which serves as guidelines on eco-responsibility. These are small steps which make a big difference.”
Doha Bank has ambitious plans to develop new green products and services for customers and launch green campaigns throughout Qatar and abroad. A series of seminars on “Global Warming and Environmental Protection” have been initiated by Doha Bank across the world. The bank has also organized Knowledge sharing and awareness seminars, e-Newsletters, eco-Schools to encourage children to become environmental advocates at an early age. Tree planting, beach clean-up and similar activities were also arranged as part of the Bank’s dedication to the environmental cause.
In November 2009, Doha Bank will hold the Al Dana Green Run with tagline “Run for a worthy cause!” followed by a Green Quiz 2009. This event is being organized encourage the public to run for good health, good cause and do their bit in building a greener earth.
“GO Green with Doha Bank! It’s simply the right thing to do!” is the catchy phrase displayed on its promotional flyers, brochures and mupis. Campaigns are also run through ATM machines to minimize or eliminate printing of receipts and to solicit cooperation towards the Bank’s drive in greening the environment.
Doha Bank is the first bank in the Middle East to propagate the “green” culture and was conferred the Best Green Bank 2008 Industry awards by The Banker Middle East.
