Doha Bank’s Al Dana Green Run 2010 draws overwhelming support

Race spotlights environmental protection and customer service


More than 1500 people of diverse backgrounds gave their resounding support of Doha Bank’s green causes by their overwhelming participation in the annual Al Dana Green Run 2010.

Professionals and homemakers, men, women and children, sports enthusiasts and members of various socio-cultural groups ran the 3 kilometers to raise awareness of wild life preservation and environmental protection. They were supported by Dandoon, this year’s ‘foxy’ race mascot starting at 3.15 pm from Intercontinental Hotel covering an entire lap around the Qatar Exhibition Centre. Dandoon represents the Ruppell’s sandfox and was chosen by Doha Bank as a meaningful mascot as it is a locally found species.

Doha Bank CEO, Mr. R. Seetharaman said “This is the sixth consecutive year of the run. We at Doha Bank have a continuing campaign to raise awareness among people and encourage them to think green. We live in an increasingly fragile eco system and we need to act now and one of the major steps towards that is realizing that we human beings are the ones to protect and preserve the world we live in.”

Mr. Seetharaman expressed his appreciation to the staff of the Traffic & Patrols Department at the Ministry of Interior, the Athletic Federation and Intercontinental Hotel who supported this event.

There were five categories in the race for men and women above and below 18 years as well as for people with special needs. Participants were entertained with many fun competitions for adults and children before the start of the run. Many prizes were awarded and adding to the fun and enjoyment was live entertainment provided by a band and DJ in addition to folkloric dance and music. With everyone enjoying the event participants vowed to return next year to take part and reinforce the green message.

There was a draw for the super millionaire prize through the popular and exceptional Al Dana Savings Scheme that gives every customer a chance to win QR 1 Million with every QR 1000 deposited in their savings account or the Doha Millionaire Certificate.

Doha Bank also took the opportunity to get feedback on its services as well as gather information on the bank’s wide range of products, many of which are unique and one of a kind in Qatar. Among the latest being Doha Sooq, its latest award winning ecommerce initiative ( www.dohasooq.com) – where people can buy, sell, trade and win fabulous prizes for doing so. Doha Sooq is Middle East’s first e-mall site by a leading financial institution that offers online shopping and delivery of items anywhere in Qatar. The run, also reinforces Doha Bank’s green message as the bank to have introduced the very first Green Account in Qatar, wherein all banking transactions are done through electronic channels, thus rationalizing the use of paper. Being pioneers of promoting Green in the region it also introduced the Green Card, where in customers accumulate loyalty points and contribute it towards green causes through international organizations.
